Hole No. 8 plays along and over the top end of the ravine. The opening throw has to negotiate the big Douglas fir one way or the other and then clear marshy ground and wetland plants in the bottom of the ravine above a dam – Jon Foley calls this area “the pond” though it may or may not have standing water in it. A granite rock outcropping on the course is up right of the pond and more trees are left. The designer tinkered with the hole location to make it visible from the tee. “I had to move it farther to the side to have the keyhole view,” he said.

The green site sits over the entrance road to the course and behind it, catching a long throw, is a rough of long grasses and aspen trees.
